Artist Statement

My art is an exploration of color. My style is constantly changing and evolving depending on what inspires me at the time I am creating a new piece, but color is a constant in all of my work. It sets the mood, defines the relationship between objects and creates a theme. One minute I may be inspired to paint a realistic piece then the next I'll paint a looser more whimsical piece. I don't like to keep painting the same type of work over and over again. To me, as an artist, that's boring. I am constantly trying something new and exploring new ways to use paint on a canvas. This is what challenges me as an artist and makes me strive to be better. I am a realist painter at heart but my most recent work lies somewhere between realism and a cartoon. Painting in a more abstract manner challenges my steady hand and need for straight and perfect lines but I feel it is my happiest work and the most fun to paint. I never know what I am going to paint next and that is half the fun of being an artist. Art is supposed to evoke thought or emotion to those who see it and so I wait as an artist to be inspired in order to create. Inspiration may come in a shade of pink, a rooster crowing or a view from a 3rd story window but whatever it is...I will capture it with paint.

Artist's Bio

After obtaining a B.F.A. in Studio Art from Arizona State University, I started my own business and made a living as a mural artist and decorative painter for more than eight years. I specialized in interior design consulting and creating interactive murals for children. Once I had a good client base I began to do commissioned paintings on canvas, specializing in custom fine art to compliment my client's interior design. Now I am starting a whole new phase of my career by completing enough work to have gallery shows and do art exhibitions
